Yummy Bean Soup

Everybody knows that sometimes simplest things are best.

In at least one Central American country, a staple of the diet is beans and rice.

The beans are called "frijoles" (pronounced frih-hole-lays).

At our house, these get cooked frequently in our crock pot.

My hubs makes a soup out of the extra broth from the beans!

He mixes it with bouillon and hot pepper flakes.

You know what he plops  right into the middle of the soup?

A raw egg!

It cooks fairly quickly in the hot broth.

It's honestly one of my favorite soups.

Usually, I add a dollup of sour cream right before eating it.

I use very small red beans that come in a plastic bag near the rice section of the supermarket.

They are very inexpensive and make a whole lot of "frijoles" and, naturally, lots of "frijole" soup!

It's really very, very yummy!

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE SOUP?

Oh oh oh ..I would Not LIKE THAT SOUP.
I can't stand beans...any kind of beans but especially refried beans and those that you have in that soup. My favorite kind of soup is home made cabbage soup, beet soup, or New England clam chowder.

Never heard of this soup, but it looks like something to try...looks very good. I like all soups. I never cared much for potato soup until I found the Panera Potato soup recipe. Man, it is good too!

Susan,
Sounds like a perfect soup for an early Spring evening. We enjoy many types of soups and stews too and I have been experimenting with some lentil based soups too.
Hope all is well!

Hi Susan,
It sounds like a very tasty Spring "FRIJOLES" Soup.
Do you speak Spanish, Susan?
I do. My favourite soup is New England Clam Chowder Soup.
I love soup! It's my favourite.
Your cooking recipes are delicious, sweetheart.
My dear mom was Northern Italian, like her mom, my maternal grandma.
The Italian side of my family, they all love to cook Pasta, and other delicious Italian recipes with the combination of fish, shrimps and pasta.
My hubby cooks too.
My 3 cats also love to eat...
Thank you, sweet friend, Susan for visiting My Journal Blog, and offering your heartfelt comments!
I highly appreciate friendship.
God bless you, Susan, family and loved ones!
Blessings,

Thanks for stopping by and commmenting on my "Missed Connections; Flea Market Style" post! Though I do pass a lot up, I think I'm going to be a hoarder like my gram! This bean soup looks yummy too. I put sour cream on everything.

I love beans. Since I'm not wild about meat - although I do eat some - beans are a good source of protein. I made a new recipe over the weekend that had hamburger with three kind of beans in it. However, I think my favorite soup is split pea.

Looks yummy!

Lucky you! You too, have a husband, who cooks. :-)

My husband makes a wonderful chicken soup! When we have our (free range) roast chicken, we get a couple of meals out of it. Then he boils up the bones, and makes soup. :-)

Yummmmmm...

Hi sweet Susan,
Thank you so much for visiting My Journals again this day!
You sound like a super friend.
I love your wonderful blog!
I'll be visiting you often.
I have been reading some of your older posts about Central American breakfast with "frijoles"/beans, rice and "platanos"/bananas.
When I traveled to Brazil, Brazilians served their most traditional dish, "FEIJOADA."
It looks like a big stew with everything in it, including rice, beans, "frijoles," meat, and many other things. If you wish, you may look up the recipe in Google Search, and find out the ingredients. You may also watch how it looks like in "You Tube," and/or Online images of "BRAZILIAN FEIJOADA." It has many calories.
I am overweight, so I am on a diet in order to lose lots of weight. Sadly, I can hardly walk, for I am small, but heavy with 200 pounds.
This morning, I sent a note to your inbox with my email included, if you wish to contact me. Please, do reply. Welcome Aboard, Susan! My Facebook User Name is:
Starry Love.
Well, that is all for today.
Have a blessed week, Susan!
Blessings,

Any kind of beans are delicious, IMHO! And the dollop of sour cream??.....perfect.
And God is faithful and has all the answers, and yes, I do know that there are angels.

I find it interesting when folks say they don't eat beans as I eat them each and every day. And I love soup! Just had a bowl of zucchini soup. Simple -- vege broth, zucchini, onion, black pepper, curry powder -- all cooked til tender and then whizzed in the blender. With a chunk of toasted bread. Yummo! Wishing you a wonderful day. Tammy
