Return of the Animals...

Collections come and go but some stay with us forever.

One of my favorites is a wooden animal collection that is now more than 30 years old.

This is not a huge, out-of-control collection.

It's a fairly small, quaint, manageable one.

There are just eight animals and two guardsmen!

I love the tall necked giraffes and the graceful gazelles, the fierce-looking lion, the rhino, and the trio of elephants!

They are all so dear to me.

They traveled cross-country with us when we lived in Arizona for more than a decade and moved back with us when we returned to the east.

Below is a fellow I call "Ol' Smiley."

Sometimes the animals spend time in a box in the attic----until I "discover" them again and bring them downstairs.

Once again, they are marching on the fireplace mantel for awhile.

Just seeing the wooden animals from Kenya, Africa, makes me happy.
Other posts written about them can be read here and here, if you are interested.

Your animal collection is very nice. I have quite a collection of animals myself. ours are all Jamaican art that we purchase every time we go. We go usually every year. The only ones I usealy display are my roosters.

Hello from Spain: your collection of wood is very nice and original. Giraffes are very smart animals. I have a collection of wooden Russian dolls: Matrioskas. Keep in touch

Beautiful collection! The wood is gorgeous. I have one carved animal from Africa. One of my favorite collections is my egg cups. They are put away from Christmas and not ready to come back out yet, but soon!

I would love these too. I like that they are made of wood.

I'm not a collector of anything but I do have a few music boxes if that counts...You could open your own store with all your collections...enjoy them!

Just love this! It's chic, cultural, and whimsical all at once.
I love collecting vintage pottery. Primarily with some kind of floral or nature motif(Weller and Roseville).
Thanks for sharing and Happy Tues! xo

I remember seeing them before = loved them then and now. Are they sturdy enough to be played with? I like that long thin giraffe neck. I have a collection of magnets. lol

I have a bunch of wooden animals, too, lots of elephants from all our travels. Of course, I have all sorts of collections. My kids say I'm a hoarder. Ha! Best wishes, Tammy
