Mexican border towns are often filled with great arts and crafts.
Some items are made rather cheaply, just for tourists, of course, but visitors can also pick up very nice quality articles as well.
When we lived in Arizona, one of my favorite trips was to Nogales, a town right over the border of Mexico.
Once, I found a small but brightly colored tin box.
I lifted the cover and inside, sandwiched between thin pieces of paper, were cut out tin figures.
When I took them all out and set them up, it was an incredible manger scene!
Naturally, when we moved cross country back to the east, I carefully packed the little tin box and its contents.
It has been unpacked every Christmas since.
This year, the tin manger is in one of the bottom shelves in a small china hutch that also houses "crystal angels" and the Holy Family.

Your tin manger scene is very unique, my friend. Isn't it fun to pull out special Christmas items every year? :) I never tire of unwrapping ornaments from 25 years ago and sharing the history with my son....soon he will know them all by heart :)

I seem to be having some blog issues. Anyway - I do love this scene - it just goes to show you that Jesus is everywhere.
I have a wooden manger scene I take out each year made by one of my students that is a favorite of mine. I love manger scenes at Christmas time as they remind me of the reason for the season.
It is fun to take out Christmas decorations from many years ago and revisit the past. Sometimes it is a little sad, but it is all a part of the magic of the season.
I have a card my mother made the first Christmas we spent in our new home. She cut out paper to look like the siding on the house and in the window, which she decorated with a real ruffled curtain that she sewed, was a picture of our 2 little boys, aged 3 and 6. They are peeking out of the window with smiles on their faces. A very happy time in our lives remembered every Christmas, thanks to Mom.
