The Enchantment of a Carousel

Some childhood memories stand out like shining stars.

One of mine is of riding a carousel that was located on a hill overlooking a beautiful lake.

Whenever my Daddy said we were going to take a ride to go on what we called "the merry-go-round,"  my heart beat extra fast and hard.

It was beyond thrilling.

Fast forward several decades.

I found a western Massachusetts town that just completed a carousel project after many years of volunteer planning and labor.

The horses were hand-carved and painted in a variety of happy colors.

Seeing a very special little person and her parents ride that new carousel while I rode in a more stationary seat turned out to be a summer highlight.

The two bucks a ticket guaranteed a ride back to childhood days so it was worth every cent.

WHAT, IF ANYTHING, DO YOU LOVE ABOUT CAROUSELS?

That was always my favorite ride at amusement parks or wherever I saw a "Merry Go Round" which is what I always called it. Next time I'm visiting you I want to go on it too.

i love them too. The colors and the animals. So beautiful. I once wrote a poem about carousel's for my daughters when they were young.

I took my boys on them when they were younger. We have one at a local mall and one at a zoo with lions and tigers and zebras.

We went to the one at the mall a few weeks ago. My youngest son and I rode. Oldest son and Daddy stood and watched. :)

Thanks for the trip down memory lane!

The thing I like is taking my grandchildren - and seeing the joys on their faces. I don't remember going on one as a child. Looks like fun!

I, too, remember the "merry-go-round" by the lake. It was such a treat to get to ride on the pretty horses and to watch the shining waters of the lake whiz by. The breeze felt great and the music added a sense of being at a carnival.

Thanks for bringing back a wonderful summertime childhood memory!

We are so lucky here in Missoula to have a locally created carousel. My husband carved 4 of the horses and was given the honor of carving the lead horse. We were so proud.Search on Google for the Missoula Montana carousel.:) Kit

.. I loved the Merry Go Round at the annual Easter Show in Sydney when I was a child....
We called the flat spinning ride in the park with the four dividing rails on them a merry-go-round, too.... someone would hold on and run around the outside to make it spin and then jump on.. xxxx .. wonderful.. xxx Barb xx

I've been noticing childhood memories are floating up alongside the summer breezes. I remember riding on a merry-go-round, but it was nothing as beautiful and grand as the one you show.

Watching Mary Poppins I sort of wished we could ride off the carasoul and 'boing' along an interesting country road.

What fun when these memories remind us of good times.

Thanks so much for sharing!

Garden statues and Carousels - I think we are kindred spirits, my friend. "the merry-go-round".......I haven't heard that saying in a long time. Carousels are so delightful for children AND adults hehehe.
