Free as a Bird

(Sculpture shown is in the garden at the House of the Seven Gables in Salem, MA)

My one negative encounter with a seagull took place years ago near a beach in Maine.

We had just ordered luscious lobster rolls while  sitting outside on a restaurant patio.

I was about to take a bite of this luscious treat when, almost out of nowhere, a seagull swooped down, took a bite of his own from the lobster roll, and flew wildly up back into the sky.

It was totally shocking but funny, too.  I was scared of that rude, flying dude!

This summer, while visiting the House of the Seven Gables, of Nathanial Hawthorne fame, in Salem, Massachusetts, I saw two seagulls.

They were quite lovely and safely in sculpture form!

We will soon be featuring a couple of posts on the House of the Seven Gables and the gorgeous garden near it so, if interested, stop by again. I love your visits!
WHAT DO YOU KNOW ABOUT SEAGULLS?

Seagulls will steal food from local fishermen all the time and also people on the beach who are having a feast. They are rather tame among humans so always be on guard with them. I've had that same thing happen to me when I was picnicking at the ocean near by me. I've been to House of Seven Gables and loved it. So happy you enjoyed your time there.

I mostly see sea gulls whenever I visit Jess, and she is five minutes from the ocean, so there are dozens of them in that area. They don't seem to be scared of the locals, and they get very close. I love white birds, and the sea gull is among them. That mischievous sea gull took a bite of your lobster roll hehehe.

Hi, Susan! I know very little about seagulls, but I would probably have thrown the entire lobster roll after him due to fright! - Nellie

I don't know too much about them either - but I know they are near water. Now I know they will steal your food!
