A Grandmother's Love

Grammie
Grandma
Grandmother
Babcia
Nana
Oma

Those are just a few of the ways grandchildren refer to their grandmothers.

All are endearing.

My own grandmothers made life-long impacts on heart and soul.

Both have been gone from this earth for decades but lessons learned from them are still with me.

Their love was unconditional, pure, and beyond precious. It was a gift from God, for sure.

My precious grands call me either Grammie, Gahgah,  and sometime, just plain Susie.

Personally, I don't give a twit how they refer to me.

When I feel their arms around my neck, plant kisses on my cheek, or lovingly smile at me via computer from another state, all is right with my world.

WHAT IS ONE THING YOU LEARNED FROM A GRANDMOTHER?

I guess the thing I learned mostly from one of my Grandmothers were her ethnic recipes for soups, cabbage rolls and pierogi. I can still smell the delicious aromas from her kitchen and I still LOVE those foods.

My dad's mom was Mammaw to us grandkids. She didn't want me to marry my first husband, my high school sweetheart, who turned out to not be so sweet after all. I should have listened. Ha! My mom's mom was Grandma Collins. Only ever saw her every other Christmas until I was 14 and my fondest memory is all the cards and letters she sent me over the years. They've both been gone since the 80's. Really miss having them in my life.

Being a grandmother is so special, isn't it, Susan? I just want to be called plain "grandma." That suits me fine. The love they give us is wonderful. Your ballerina bunny is too cute. Love her colorful scarf hehehe.

I can't quite recall if this is really so, but I think it was my Grandma who showed me how to crochet. She loved crocheting. She also showed us how to wind the skeins of cotton into balls. I loved that job … holding out the my hands so the skein could rest on them and she'd be busy winding the yarn into a ball.

I'm so grateful for both my grandmas. They were kind and loving to me and my siblings.

My babies call me Nana or Nana Linda, and I bow to their requests. My grandma allowed me to soak in her long-legged wash tub on hot summer days when I was a toddler. When she dragged that tub into the yard form her basement, I knew I was in for a treat.
