From Witches and Pumpkins to Turkeys and Cold

The time for witches and pumpkins has now passed but the memories will remain vivid for a long time to come.

Because trick-or-treating was much too risky this year, with the threat of COVID-19 lurking in the air, my daughter and SIL found a fun alternative for the kids.

They created an imaginative haunted forest in the back yard where there really is a forest.

A neighbor dressed up as a witch and stood behind a steamy cauldron (thanks to dry ice).

She told tales of werewolves and things that go bump in the night, to the delight of everyone, both big and small.

She served very green "frog juice" which the kids drank, even though how it was made remained a mystery.

There were flaming tiki torches and lighted pathways along the woods where another neighbor provided the eerie sounds of werewolves.

Of course there were lots of candies, too, as well as dancing to the Monster Mash on yet another neighbor's festively decorated backyard patio.

The fun evening ended with everyone sitting around a bonfire, with blankets on their laps, sipping hot chocolate that was kept warm in a crock pot.

Kudos to everyone who made such a memorable Halloween night for all.

Thanks to the Blue Moon, too, for providing a spectacular sight in the night sky.

HOW DO YOU PLAN TO SPEND THANKSGIVING THIS  PANDEMIC YEAR?

Sounds like it was a successful Halloween after all. Getting creative is necessary now more then ever. Stressful times. Sure hope we will soon have something positive to keep us going.

What a wonderful sounding Halloween!! This year our kids and us are going into quarantine for 2 weeks prior to Thanksgiving. That way they can come into our house and for the first time in 8 months I will be able to hug my children. We will have our dinner and play games long into the nite. 😊 Kit

How fun for the kids that the neighbor participated in the back yard forest. I bet the kids loved it with the cauldron and the tales of werewolves. Now I'm curious what the green "frog juice" was haha. The bonfire and hot chocolate sounds so nice to end the evening.

This sounds like such fun! I’m all for bonfires and hot chocolate! Thanksgiving here will be a bit different this year. Our family isn’t able to quarantine as one daughter is a teacher, grandchildren are in school, one daughter and husband work in hospitality, other daughter has arranged for a camping trailer to be delivered here, and that’s where she plans to stay while visiting. We’ve discussed moving the cars out of the garage if the weather is bad, and arranging for the others to set up their camping there, plus that’s where we would serve the food while leaving the garage doors open. It will be a change, that’s for sure. They are all intent on doing what is needed to keep us safe and healthy. How scary it is these days! Be safe, and stay well!
