Well, there's a plant in my home office that is also growing tall like a coconut tree, except it's an avocado!
Last year, my granddaughter and I saved a pit from an avocado she ate as part of her lunch.
"Hey," I said to her. "Want to plant this pit?"
Of course, she was totally on board. So we got a pot, filled it with soil and tucked the little pit in.
We waited for weeks but nothing happened.
It took awhile for a few green sprouts to come bursting out of the soil.
Then ol' "avo" really started climbing!
We'd water it, even talk to it a little bit, and gave it lots of love!
Now, it's a real beauty, all grown from an ugly pit, and growing like a coconut, or, I should say, like an avocado tree!
GARDENERS, DO YOU THINK THIS PLANT COULD EVER GROW AN AVOCADO?

Well I was told that to grow an avacado you need another avacado tree along with it but that may be a fable. I love avacados so I hope you get one. I bet that was fun for her to see something grow out of a pit.
Avocado tree's are always so much fun to grow. I predict you might have to transplant it to get a bumper crop. But for now leave it alone and ENJOY!
What fun, my friend! My mother-in-law planted three pits and the grew very well, but sadly never produced any avocados. I hope yours does {{smiles}}
Hugs!
This is such impressive growth!!! I have a lemon tree I have been nusing for two years that is FAR from that size.
We've had several avocado trees grow from pits that we've put in the compost. One is growing beautifully and seems to be happier when left indoors, even during the summer. Would love it if we had some avocados from them, but no such luck.
Hi Susan: You do have to have two trees to get avocados. Of course you have to be patient. Have a wonderful Mother's Day. Hugs, Martha
What a great thing you and your granddaughter did together. I do think you will get some avocados. You will have to let us know.
That was a fun project for you and your granddaughter. Just seeing the beautiful green leaves unfurling as spring unfolds outside is a happy thing. Not sure what the plant needs to actually produce an avocado. You could google it.
I did plant an avocado pit many years ago and it did grow quite tall, but no avocado. At the time, I didn't care for avocados, but just wanted a free plant for our apartment and I got it!
One of the greatest gifts I ever received was a peach pit planted in a coffee can, from our elderly neighbor. Your baby is maturing and hopefully will bear fruit for years to come. What a great little story.
