Precious Peonies

Gosh, the peonies are out and bringing incredulous beauty to the front and back yards.

Here, we have deep cranberry and white peonies.

My late paternal grandmother had these gorgeous flowers in her yard, too.

My faves of her flowers were the light pink peonies.

Never, ever stick your nose in one and inhale, however, because peonies are ant hotels.

As beautiful as they are, no bouquets of peonies, unless commercially grown, grace our kitchen table, sad but true.

WHAT FACTS DO YOU KNOW ABOUT PEONIES?

I love peonies. Don’t have them where I live but remember them in my grandparents yard and in my childhood home. They are lovely.

I know we had lilac ones when I was growing up - complete with ants.

I used to have a peony bush that was loaded with blooms. But they sunk to the ground after a rain. So although they didn't last long, they were delightful.

The peonies are gorgeous. I know nothing about peonies except that I like their big, showy flowers.

Our peonies are just coming into bloom this week. It's always a favourite week in the summer. Yours are beautiful.

What do I know about peonies? Let's see, I do believe the crown doesn't like to be buried too deep, otherwise they won't bloom well. (don't quote me, that's something I remember from years ago)

Wishing you a beautiful weekend, Susan.
