Fresh Treats in May

What a thrill it is to buy living plants that are good to eat.

A trip to a garden center last weekend resulted in a hanging baby tomato plant for the back porch and beautiful, fresh lettuces planted in a big plastic planter that looks like terra cotta.

The grands love searching and then discovering the little red mini-globes in the hanging plant.

They pop them right into their little mouths and save some for salads, too.

The lettuce planter holds a couple different varieties.   After snapping them off, they grow new fronds for future salads.

The guy at the nursery said to continue feeding the plant water mixed with plant food and the fronds will grow right back.

That way, we'll have fresh lettuce for quite awhile. Yippah!

May has got to be one of the best months in the calendar.

WHAT IS YOUR VERY FAVORITE SPRING SALAD?

There is nothing better than a fresh salad! I love your variety of lettuce and the cute little tomatoes. The plants are fun for your grands too. Enjoy!🍅🥬

My son grows tomatoes and lettuce in his side yard make shift garden. He loves having fresh veggies for salads like you do. I am not into gardening at all. I simply do not have a green thumb. I like a mediterranean or greek salad the best.

Oh, those little tomatoes must taste really good. There's nothing like homegrown tomatoes, is there? That's so nice that you get to grow them right in your back yard, Susan. That's interesting about the way the lettuce grows too. You're right, dear friend, MAY is one of the best months on the calendar! It's such a happy month.
