Some things can be sold, others go to charity, and still others get left by the side of the road to be taken for "free."
When one is downsizing, it's impossible to save every item.
Some things, however, can never be thrown out.
One of these is a basket of sorts made from various greeting cards that have been sewn together.
My late maternal grandmother used to make these baskets.
She mixed Christmas cards with other occasion cards, too.
They all came together to make very pretty and attractive pieces of art.
My basket is many decades old but it's still extremely precious to me.
I can imagine, in my mind's eye, my Polish grandmother selecting which cards she would use, then cutting them and sewing them together with brightly colored yarn.
A basket with bright red yarn has graced three different households throughout the years.
So Grandma's card basket sits on a bookshelf near a very brightly colored cabinet, done by my daughter.
Perhaps the artistic genes are passed down from one generation to another.

Oh Susan, what a treasure this is. And it's still in good shape after all these years and all the moves you've had. I've never seen this type of decoration at all. How special that your grandmother used to make these baskets herself. The pink roses are perfect for you. Isn't that something that I have a Polish grandmother too? I can see why this one had to stay with you always. : )

What a pretty basket. It feels somewhat familiar, perhaps my own grandma or an aunty made something similar. People were so resourceful and your grandma had the knack for repurposing items, like the lovely greeting cards.
It's so hard to say goodbye to these treasures.
Hope you are well, Susan. Happy weekend.

I have the same one Susan but mine has seen better days as I use it daily to keep mail in it. I love it too.
