Something New from the Old and Broken

One personal difficulty is that it's hard to let go of things that have been enjoyed and saved throughout the years, even if they are broken.

That makes de-cluttering and downsizing strike fear in the heart, even though both are imperative.

Take, for instance, the golden angel shown at the top of this post.

He/she's been a part of Christmas decorations for literally decades.

This year, however, little angel's hands got squished a move and broke off completely.

Angel was in my hand above the trash can but never made it inside.

Instead, angel was re-purposed.

Instead of holding a horn, angel now looks up at gold decorations and sports a bright red poinsettia, as well.

No one can see the broken hands and angel will get carefully packed away for another Christmas.

See what I mean about difficulty discarding things?

Now if angel had been put into a charity pile, he/she would have been tossed into a trash can for sure.

Someday that will probably happen but not on my watch.

Angel is now "new" even though old and broken.

Wish it was possible to do that for humans, too.

Oh what a lovely way of repurposing a well loved decoration. I too did some tossing and then getting back into the bag and deciding I just was not ready to part with a treasure from the past. Have a Happy New Year. Hugs!

Oh so happy to hear you repurposed your decoration that was dear to you. I would have probably thrown it away . I have one that has no arm but I still keep it on display. Ha ha.

I do the same thing - I place vintage figurines that have chips and broken parts in a potted plant or in the garden. And yes, they will eventually be discarded but like you said, not on my watch!

I'm glad you were able to do something with your broken angel, Susan. It's nice when we can glue or repurpose things to make them look like new again. And I love your red table cloth with the bright flowers.

Have a splendid week, dear Susan.

I used to get really upset when things would get broken; now, not so much. After all, they are just things. And many people in this world love everything through war and natural disasters. That being said, I do salvage as much as I can. And my husband will tell you I'm a hoarder when it comes to jars and bottles and plastic containers. :)
