The Message of Christmas Remains

In homes all over, holiday decorations are being taken down, wrapped, and stored in plastic totes until next Christmas.

It's immense fun to decorate one's space but a rather tedious, time-consuming task to take everything down and pack it away.

However, no one would really want their homes or apartments filled with Christmas decorations year-round, right?

Whenever a feeling of being overwhelmed came over me in the past, my late husband would remind me of how to handle anything.

"How do you eat an elephant?" he would ask.

"How?" I always answered.

"One bite at a time," he'd say and we'd both laugh.

His wise words will probably always remain with me because their message is so clear.

Taking down decor in just one corner or half a room at a time may be all that is bearable for the moment.

Little by little, it will all get done. There is no rush to finish such a daunting task all at once.

While Christmas is over, the hope, peace, and love brought by the little Christ child remains.

He gives strength to the weary and peace so deep that nothing can disturb those who place their trust in Him.

As you take down decorations, savor precious memories made this past holiday season and let your heart fill to the brim with His never ending love.

A blessed, joyful, and peaceful new year to all!

So beautifully said.
We can put all the “Christmas” away but the One that remains and should be in our hearts everyday and not just for a season.

I agree . The meaning of Christmas should be in our hearts all year round. Happy New Year.

Susan, I have taken down my Christmas decorations, but it still remains in my heart. I am still watching Christmas movies, and I'm sure it's hard for most people to have the Christmas season over. So, it still lives on in the hearts of many. I have seen Valentine stuff out already, so this day of love makes me happy too. Little by little, you will get it done, and I like the elephant reference your husband told you. : )

Hello Susan! It's nice to be back. It sounds like you had a wonderful Christmas. I especially love hearing about the heartfelt gift of your Christmas tree. Yes, it's sad that our culture is always in such a hurry to "put away" Christmas, but it's never really put away in our hearts if we love Him is it? A number of years ago I heard a song I had never heard before at a Christmas Concert in Seattle. entitled "When the work of Christmas Begins." composed by Howard Thurman, an African-American theologian. If you haven't heard it I recommend your listening to it. No matter how many times I hear it, never ceases to touch my heart.
