Alleluia! He Has Risen and Given Hope to the World!

Today is Easter Sunday!

It's a day of celebration and, hopefully, bright sunshine. For Christians, it's a remembrance of Jesus Christ's dying a brutal death on a cross, rising from the dead on this morning, and, thereby bringing hope to the world. It's a glorious holiday filled with love and unparalleled joy.

All through childhood, this day was cause for great celebration and happiness. Every Easter as a child, my mother would buy all of us new outfits, from bonnets down to patten leather shoes with lacy socks! For sure, there wasn't much money but my Mother always found a way to buy the Easter finery.

The day also meant delicious food! We always had ham, pierogi (Polish turnovers with yummy fillings), huge babka (Polish sweet breads filled with yellow currants and spread with butter), big bowls of steaming potatoes, veggies, and on and on. Nobody talked about diets or calories in those days. We just ate and enjoyed. ("Those were the days my friend, we thought they'd never end...")

My childless aunts brought over big Easter baskets wrapped in lavender, pink, blue, and yellow transparent wrap with big bows. Inside we'd squeal as we opened chocolate bunnies, small toys, and all kinds of treasures hidden inside green paper "grass."

When my own children were small, I loved making big Easter baskets for them and would leave them outside their rooms on Easter morning.

"Look what the Easter bunny brought!" I'd cry out as the little sleepyheads opened their eyes to the light of day.

So much has changed as the years tick by. My parents and aunts are now on the other side of life. My own "babies" are all grown up and my son lives 3,000 miles away. My daughter will spend Easter with her husband's family this year but, joy of joys, will join us later in the afternoon for dessert!

Today, I wish each of you a day filled with friends, family, good food (but not too much), joy, laughter, love, peace, and tons of chocolate! Love to all! Susan

Susan, what wonderful memories you shared with us! My dad is Polish, and although my mom (Irish) didn't often cook much Polish food, we did have it occasionally!

I'm so glad your daughter is going to be able to join you for dessert today! How special! My girls are now 21 and 25, and we were very blessed that both of them were able to come home today from the greater Boston area where they now live (one in a an apartment and one in college)...

BlogHer wasn't too lengthy a process, as I recall, and it's a wonderful company to deal with! They have certain periods where they accept new bloggers. I would highly recommend applying to them!

Happy Easter to you!!!!

Hi, Susan!
Happy Resurrection Sunday to you, too!
I am so happy to have found another sister in Christ, in you! Yay!
I love your story about Easter when you were a girl! Mine was exactly the same, except, insert German food where your Polish food was ;)
My Great-great grandmother was actually born in Poland and left way before the Germans + Hitler invaded, but later married my German G.g.grandfather here in the states. Her last name was Gloff.
(I do make pierogies!)
Did your mom buy you lacey Easter gloves, too? And a new shiny purse?
My girls are still living in the house (well, Sarah is on campus at college during the week), but oh! how I know I will miss them when they are grown and move out.
SO happy for you that you got to be with your girl and her hubby today.
I haven't had any chocolate yet...I have a secret stash I think I need to go invade...
Blessings to you!
