Filled with Memories: The Last Supper Wallhanging for Cindy's Show and Tell Friday at My Romantic Home

Mummy never bought a gift on-the-run.

She selected gifts with the intense precision of a high-powered microscope.  She often looked at merchandise in several stores before making the final cut decision.

Sometimes, when Mummy indicated she wanted somebody to go shopping with her, we'd all groan. Who would end up with that daunting task?  Her shopping companion would just about keel over by the end of  several hours of shopping while Mummy was able to practically shop til she dropped!

The wall hanging of the Last Supper, photographed in this post, Mummy gave to one of her sisters. Exquisitely crafted by Italian artisans , it shows Jesus and the apostles in great, carved detail.  It was not cheap, as Mummy pointed out.

The expressions on their faces are very real. Their clothing is shown in different colors. The figures seem very realistic, right down to bare feet peeking out from under the table.

Mummy died in 2006 after she lost a valiant battle with cancer. Her sister, my aunt, recently sold her own house to go into an assisted living facility. Among the items in her house being dispersed was the wall hanging of the Last Supper.
Since she was downsizing, she decided against taking the piece of art with her and gave it to me.

"You should have this," she said. "It was a gift given to me from your Mother."

It now hangs in our kitchen, a testimony to Mummy's faith as well as her shopping prowess.

What a wonderful memory of your Mum! How lucky that your Aunt gave it to you. I'm sure you smiled thinking about all the "shopping" it took to find that one special piece for that one special sister. I love the old look and feel to it. Lovely! Diana

What a special item to have as a memory of your mom. It is those personal family items in our house that make it a home. ~~Sherry~~

Italian everything is wonderful, from food to wook work, to clothing...I have a candle given by a friend at home, bought in Italy as a souvenir. it's simply just too pretty to light, and so, it is displayed as an ornament.
Beautiful Last Supper. Did you know that every Guatemalan Catholic home (a good % of families are catholic in my country) has a Last Supper in ther Dining Rooms? I inherited one from my Grandma, and it is at the Dining Room, guarded by two angel candle holders. My mom, actually, likes to give Last Supper hangings to newlyweds. She gave one to my brother when he got married, and it seems to always be a perfect gift.
Have a great day!!

Oh Susan I love that art work of the Last Supper. And it will always remind you of your mother and then you can pass it on.

Can you imagine really being at and witnessing the Last Supper?

Hi Susan -

Wonderful story!

My grandmother had a plaque of The Last Summer. I don't know what happened to it, but I can still see it in my mind.

Blessings,
Susan :)
