Let's Hear It for the Pots and Pans Rack!---For Metamorphosis Monday on Susan's Blog, Between Naps on the Porch

While looking through decorating magazines, one often spots pots and pans racks that hang down from a kitchen ceiling.

Have you seen the prices they command? They are E-X-P-E-N-S-I-V-E.  Some even cost more than $1000, which is way out-of-reach for our household.

While  very grateful for our pantry, storing all the pots and pans as well as their covers in one of the cabinets, turned out to be very inconvenient. Whenever it was time to  cook, it would require going into the pantry to rummage through the jumble of pots and pans to select the right ones. To say the least, it was a daily lesson in patience, not to mention putting up with lots of  banging noises every day.

Some nights, rather than face the jumbled pantry shelf,  the pots would get stored on top of the stove and look like this:

So I asked my husband, who can do just about anything around the house, if he would build some kind of a wall rack for the pots, pans, and covers.

Because the kitchen is not a huge space, and a ceiling rack would be attractive but not very practical, I was willing to settle for something against the wall at the bottom of a staircase, right off the kitchen.
First, my handy hubby went to Home Depot and bought a big piece of plywood which he cut down to size to fit against the wall.

Along the bottom of the plywood, he nailed in a piece of three-quarters thick plywood and painted it, making a very clever holder for pot and pan lids.

He also bought gray hooks which he then spray painted black (since I totally dislike gray.) He painted the plywood white and then I helped him carry it in. He used screws to attach it to the wall. Then he drilled the hooks into the plywood.

It's so much more convenient now to grab a pan and lid off the wall, instead of rummaging through the pantry cabinet.  It's not fancy, like one of those holders hanging from the ceiling, but it suits our kitchen just fine.

P.S. Looking at the condition the pots and pans are in, I'm determined to get an entirely new set after the holidays. Maybe all the ones shown in the photo will be put outside on the strip of lawn near the street in front of our house with a "FREE" sign. They'd be good for camping!
WHERE DO YOU STORE YOUR POTS AND PANS?

Your husband is OUTSTANDING - great job. I love it. That is so nice.

I keep my pans in the cabinets. I got s stainless steel set - Faberware - that my mother in law gave me 36 years ago - it is still in great shape and a great memory of her.

Love,
sandie

Great idea! Mine are still in the cupboard next to the stove. Alas.

You husband did a great job! My pots are under the stove. Wonder if and when they will make the drawer under the stove with some type of sound proof material??

I like this idea, especially the lid storage area. Hubby should market these. I store mine int he oven, but it is a pain when I want to bake.

I think he did a clever idea! I like the black too but when I first saw your pots, I thought they were antiques and have character:)) Mine are all jumbled in the bottom of an island. LOUD when I take one out.

what a great idea! and how a handy husband! :o)
At home, pots and pans are stored in kitchen cabinets. There is no room, really, for the way you have hanged them; it would have to be the ceiling, and that one would be either more difficult or way more expensive. So it will have to be the kitchen cabinets. It works, so I'm relieved :o)
have a great day!

Great job!!! Like you I admired the fancy pot racks but the condition of my pots and pans sure kept me from wanting one!
