Simple Pleasure: Prayer

Today this blog is joining the Simple Pleasures party from Dayle's blog, a Collection of This and That (http://alittleofthisandthat2.blogspot.com/ )

Growing up, my Mother frequently quoted Alfred Lord Tennyson when she'd remind us,  "More things are wrought by prayer than this world dreamed of."

She also used to say, more times than I could even fathom,  "Prayer moves mountains."

Mummy must have known that prayer was a simple pleasure. It's probably one of the greatest gifts she left to her children. (Thanks, Mummy.)

No matter how hard life becomes, prayer is the answer. If there is a problem that appears to be insurmountable, prayer can take care of  it.

Sometimes, when overwhelmed by difficulty, I know what to do-- put the matter on the pillow, turn it over to Almighty God, and go to bed. By morning, the seemingly impossible problem has, miraculously, a solution.

Actually, it's not that miraculous. It's just that the act of praying puts the dilemma into the hands of the Creator,  the greatest problem-solver of all. It's a lot better than trying to solve it in "human" terms.

At this busy, crazy, frenzied time of year, remember where you can find peace, solace, and joy--in the simple act of saying a quick, heartfelt prayer.

HAVE YOU HAD A PRAYER ANSWERED LATELY?

Now be sure to hop on over to Dayle's blog, A Collection of This and That, http://alittleofthisandthat2.blogspot.com/ and check out all the other Simple Pleasures. Her blog button is in the sidebar, too!

Susan I can't begin to tell you how many prayers have been answered and sometimes in the most amazing ways! I pray often even for things other people wouldn't consider "worthy" but to me even the smallest pray is heard. Have a most blessed and happy Christmas!

Hi Susan, love that Santa in your previous post. What a sweet friend to snap it up and bring it straight to you. Love that Arab Proverb too.

I've been feeling so overwhelmed lately. Although I manage to do things every day and everyone thinks I accomplish a lot, I am never organized to follow through with anything I really want to do. I feel like a leaf blowing in the wind.

God and I have been talking a lot lately and I've had to let go of all my expectations. Time just is not on my side most days. But with Winter Break, I plan to get more organized and get things done. Have a great Thursday! :) Tammy

Garth Brooks has a song that states "Some of God's greatest gifts are unanswered prayers". I feel this is so true, at least in my life. God does not always give you want you want , but he always gives you what you need.

This is a great reminder of the blessing of prayer in our lives - another of God's gifts to us. Hope you have a Merry Christmas!

Susan,
We should all bow our heads in prayer; this is a wonderful reminder.

I have, saved on a piece of scrap paper, these words: "If we knew the power of prayer, we'd be afraid to get off our knees." Not sure anymore where I found this, but no doubt from some place on the internet.

My mother was a praying woman and if I had to choose one term to describe her, it would be "she prayed". Just found your blog and am enjoying the thought-provoking posts! Thank you. Judy

I really need this today, Susan. Prayer is such a privilege and is, indeed, the answer to life's turmoil. I recently saw a prayer answered on behalf of my sister, one of many prayers answered through the years.

Merry Christmas to you and yours.

I love this. I really, really love it. This is a favorite part:

"Actually, it's not that miraculous. It's just that the act of praying puts the dilemma into the hands of the Creator, the greatest problem-solver of all. It's a lot better than trying to solve it in "human" terms."

I very recently experienced the answer to prayer in the desire of a favorite old friend's heart. She wanted very much to go home to be with the LORD. She wasn't ill or anything, but her time here, she told me, was accomplished. The other day, she closed her 97 year old eyes on earth and opened them with the YES of God. It is hard to be sad, though I am, when I know that this was an answer to her prayer.

This is beautiful -- so many prayers I have offered to God and He responds to all of them, but some in a way different than I imagined.

I'm leaving my cares to Him...

Susan, this is the thing - the older I get - the more I pray. Do you find that to be true too?
