Gearing Up for the Holidays

As the double holiday season, Thanksgiving and Christmas, comes closer and closer, at breakneck speed, remember to take time for yourself.

Wouldn't you just love to disappear some afternoons?  You could leave a sign. like the one below, in your kitchen.

(I spotted the sign in Lanesboro Junction, a fabulous crafts shop in Western Massachusetts. It made me laugh outloud).

There was a Halloween post on this shop which, if you missed it and want to read it, go here.http://writingstraightfromtheheart.blogspot.com/2011/10/creepy-eerie-spooky-halloween-hello.html

You know how sometimes you see something in a shop but restrain yourself?  You don't buy it but then you keep thinking that you should have?

Well, that's how I feel about this adorable sunflower tablerunner, also seen at Lanesboro Junction. It's beautifully made and would look SO NICE on my kitchen table.

Uhhhhhh, Santa? (Hubs?)  Santa, (Daughter?) are you reading this blog? Hope so.

Do you know anyone who collects chickens?  These would be a cute gift:

Many of this blog's readers love handmade things. This I know and I'm with you, non-commercial merchandise all the way. That's why I love little gift and crafts shops like Lanesboro Junction. Here's what it looks like on the outside.

Check out Lanesboro Junction on Facebook!

WHAT DO YOU USUALLY LOOK FOR IN CRAFTS SHOPS?

Wish I could get your your sunflower - and I do know some one who loves chickens - and I wish I could get it for her. I love to look in shops and browse. There are so many pretty things out there and so many talented people. Love, sandie

Often I just love to browse in craft stores and don't even buy anything (I live in a very small space) I also like to get ideas for things I could make. Love to touch fabrics and materials too!!

Yes, yes, I would LOVE to disappear sometime! I say this every November to my husband and probably someday, we will indeed just skip the whole season, or at least in the traditional way. Don't get me wrong, I love November/December, which is not only holiday season for our family, but Birthday season - BIG time! So... there are so many celebrations which are a blessing, but I easily end up feeling overwhelmed at the nostalgia that surrounds this time of year.

As for craft stores - I find that while I love to look - I just don't need or want all of the trinkets anymore for my house. A few chosen pieces here or there, are what I lean towards. I'm not so big on the country-look anymore, more of a classic Pottery-Barn look. So those are the things that draw me in, but I more often try to duplicate everything at home by myself, without the big expense.

Thanksgiving blessings to you and yours,
Linda

Oh what a great shop! I want to shop there! (wailing) I really am going to have to find some bazaars to go to this year. I am in need of some new crafty items. Kit

I look for unique things when shopping in craft shops. Haven't been in one in a while. I should go soon. :)

Happy Thanksgiving,
