Bacon, Lettuce and Tomatoes Plus Sausages

Oh boy, the saddest thing about summer ending is to think about saying goodbye to sun warmed tomatoes, fresh from the garden.

Farmers' markets have been filled with the red globes in all sizes, from big, fat ones to little rounds of sweetness.

Bacon, lettuce and tomato (BLT) sandwiches as well as BLT salads, minus bread, are both delish.

Avocado slices make a nice addition to either sandwiches or salads.

The typical spread to put on BLTs is mayonnaise.

Around here, we use the lighter version and it seems to be just as delicious as the full fat mayo.

Here's also a word about breakfast sausage links.

So many times when cooked, they became skinny and tough.  They sure didn't look like the links on the cover of the package.

Well, here's the secret to getting nice, chubby links to dip into your breakfast eggs.

Put the links in a frying pan with water and COVER.  Cook this way for five minutes or so, then lift the color and let the links brown a bit.

Voila!  Chubby little links that are nice and juicy, too.

So there you have it. BLT sandwiches, BLT salads and fat sausage links.  All yummy!

One last note. Slice up a lemon and a lime, place in a pitcher, fill with water and keep it in the refrigerator at all times.

We've had  pitcher in the fridgie all summer long, replacing the lemon and lime every couple of days and replenishing the water daily.

Can't beat it as a drink to accompany meals or to drink whenever hunger strikes between meals!

WHICH DO YOU PREFER, BACON, SAUSAGES. OR NEITHER?

Susan,
I LOVE to go to the farmer's market in the summer too.
Just finished sausage and eggs for breakfast.
I would say it is a tie for me concerning sausage and bacon.
Your pictures are "eye appealing"!

This looks yummy! I prefer bacon, and I love a nice BLT. I too, will miss fresh tomatoes. Hopefully my tomato plants will keep producing for a little while yet. :)

Have a great weekend!

Well, my preference is bacon! We have made the switch to turkey bacon several years ago. Avocado always makes things better.:)

That pitcher of water with lemon and lime slices sounds very refreshing. I keep a Tervis Tumbler full of ice water to drink all day. Adding lime/lemon is such a good idea!

Thank you for your visit to my blog!

Have a great Thursday!

I really do miss the taste of a good tomato--ours in the Pacific Northwest just doesn't come up to ones in the east and south! However, I do love your idea of a BLT salad (although mine would be veggie bacon or smoked tempeh!)
At our farmer's market in Redmond, the produce is definitely turning to late summer crops--butternut and acorn squash, kale, turnips, and apples...lots of apples. It's looking a lot like Fall:-) XOXO

Yum, the sandwich and the sausages both look good. I haven't had link sausages in forever. Did have bacon recently with friends...too much...probably clogged an artery or two! :)

Your photos make me hungry!!! I am a bacon girl. I use to eat sausages also but they don't 'like' me anymore. I love the fresh tomatoes and I'll miss them as summer ends. Hugs, Linda

My favorite sandwich since I've been a little girl is a BLT but I use the real mayo still...I haven't had sausages in ages but I do put lemons in my water pitcher ..have some in my refrig right now.

No meat for me -- but I do love a good tomato sandwich and only use light Hellman's -- of course, about the only things I use mayo for are sandwiches and potato salad and don't make either of those very often. Hope all is well with you, Tammy

Susan,
Bacon, lettuce, and tomato sandwiches are the best! This looks so yummy. I was noticing your commment when I left mine on Terra's Garden about the Andy Griffith Show, and guess what - we have so much in common. Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman is my FAVORITE SHOW EVER! And I love Little House and Touched By An Angel too. I watch the re-runs all the time, although Touched By An Angel doesn't come on after them any more. Isn't Brian, Coleen, and Matthew the best? And Hank and Lauren are so funny. All the characters play the perfect parts. I could go on forever. I'm glad I found someone who loves those shows as much as I do.

So many things on here - I love the avocado and tomatoes and I love the plate they are on.

And thanks for the sausage tip.

The lemon water was just a site for sore eyes - I love lemon.

We can't buy Hellmann's here --- instead the same thing is called Best Foods. Interesting tidbit, eh? Beautiful photos --- made me hungry! And I'll have to vote for neither, since I'm a vegetarian. I'm eating lots of tomatoes, tho!

I love bacon and tomato sandwiches not keen on the lettuce but you can use avocado as a spread no need for butter then and I don't very often use mayo but put lemon juice on most of my salads greens and hot vegetables, but sausages we get many varieties here from lamb, chicken, beef and turkey with various herbs and spices added some are great and some are awful so I try them all to see which ones I like.
