One More Stargazer Lily

Walking in the backyard this morning, guess what I found?

A lone stargazer lily in the round flower bed that has been the local restaurant for a delinquent woodchuck.

Just about every bulb  planted there became lunch for Mama Woody.

I read that pinwheels would detract this type of animal so I bought seven of them at the Dollar Tree.

Hubs "planted" the pinwheels all along the fence in the backyard.

I literally saw the big fat woodchuck waddle by all those pinwheels.

Busted.

So when I spotted the stargazer that managed to survive being the woodchuck's lunch, it was cause for immediate celebration.

I clipped her as quickly as possible, rushed into the house and put her in a vase on the kitchen table.

You didn't get this one, Mrs. Woodchuck.

DO YOU HAVE ANY GUARANTEED MEANS OF GETTING RID OF PESKY WOODCHUCKS?

So sorry that woodchuck ate all your bulbs. I have no cure for those creatures at all. Here I have groundhogs...are they the same thing?

We have a new baby bunnies who ate every last hosta bordering the garage. It was fun to watch them. Now I buy them baby carrots.

We used to use moth balls to discourage critters when we managed a storage facility. I wonder whether the strategic placement of a few handfuls of those might help with the 'chucks. Of course, they'd need to be replaced after a rainy spell, but it might be an inexpensive way to eliminate their disturbance. I don't think they'd eat them and die from the contents, but the smell seems to be a deterrent in many instances. Just a thought.... Hope you find something that works, anyway!

Your star gazer is beautiful no thanks to you Mr. Woodchuck.

You don't!

No help with the woodchucks, sorry to say. We have battles with raccoons who believe the corn is planted just for them!

Beautiful lily! How fortunate that you rescued it!

I have one, Susan! Get a Have a Heart trap and then transport him to my home! ha ha He could join my Sammy Squirrels and Chips!

Well, I just watched Sweet Lorraine again, and I cannot stop crying. One of my daughters had that on their facebook page today and when I watched it, I knew I had to share it on my blog. It was too special not to! I'm so glad you enjoyed it, too, even though it's impossible to watch without crying!

Have a great week, Susan!

Not woodchucks here but we do battle moles! We bought some small metal 'windmill' things that poke into the ground. Apparently they vibrate underground and the moles don't like it. As long as we had them, the moles went away. They got broken and the moles are back. Kind of the same idea as pinwheels I guess...

Oh my, this lily is simply stunning. I don't have any woodchucks around my home, but it does get hot during the summer, and I do see my share of lizards.....eeeek!

Have a nice Thursday.

Love,
~Sheri
