Special Surprise Under the Tree

My sister and I relaxed in the living room one night this week.

Lights from the Christmas tree as well as lights along the greens of the mantel bathed the entire room in a pink and white glow.

When I glanced under the tree, I got quite a surprise.

Honey Cat looked out from the gauzy cloth with the pink sparkles!

Honey has been very sick lately and my greatest fear is that her life is ebbing to its end.

She's 20 years old now and has some big health issues going on.

(Of course when I told her she was going to have her photo taken, she moved and showed me her back end. ha! What a fresh girl she can be.)

For a few brief moments this Christmas, she was the star and looked like a little diva on the sparkly pink cloth.

I couldn't help but wonder if this will be her last Christmas and when those thoughts filtered through my mind, the tree blurred with tears.

Our pets zoom their way into our hearts and become like children to us, don't you think?

WHAT IS THE BEST GIFT YOU'VE RECEIVED FROM A PET?

Lovely Honey Cat! She has been part of the family for many years! She is certainly a pretty one, too. Our pets become part of all the action.

My grand-puppy, Reggie, joined our Christmas Eve festivities. He's a little white fuzz ball with brown ears from the royal family of Shi Tzus. He is absolutely certain - beyond a shadow of a doubt - that we are as thrilled to see him as he is to see us...and he's right!

My pup was my most loyal friend. He kept my feet warm many a winter night, and always came running to me when I entered the front door. After I had to put him down I heard the jingle of his collar tags and the pitter patter of his feet in the hall long after he was gone. Yup. Those pets certainly take up a big space in our hearts!

Honey cat is a beauty and looked gorgeous under the tree. It is hard to think of losing them but I know how you feel. Charlie is now 15 and doing fairly well, but it does cross my mind. I think his unconditional love has been his best quality always. Hugs to you and Honey Cat!

I am sad with you because I know how much you love her. But she sure is pretty and still shows attitude.

Unconditional love.

We have had 4 dogs over the course of the last 30 years and they were all special in their own way. They give so much and expect so little in return. They add so much life, joy and humor to a home.

Honey Cat is certainly a very special cat and I know your bond is very strong. 20 years is a very long time to enjoy each other's company; glad you got to spend another Christmas with her.

It is great that you have this last Christmas together but don't say that yet. She has nine lives you know.

I always have a gift of some sort sitting by my chair when ever I go away to welcome me home.
