Little Stone House Museum in the Vermont Countryside

Visiting the homes of late writers and poets ranks high on a fun excursion list.

Last weekend, a very dear friend and I traveled to Shaftsbury, Vermont, to tour the home of Robert Frost.

One reason I have always liked his poetry is because it is easy to read and understand.

It's also peaceful and after visiting the Stone House, where he lived for several years, I can understand why.

The Stone House is set on picturesque grounds.

It's kind of out in the countryside and the entire property exudes peacefulness and quiet.

By the way, he wrote "Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening" at the dining room table while living in the Stone House.

He wrote it in the month of June, however! Thought that was a hoot.

Will be doing more posts on the visit to Robert Frost's house  so if they would be of interest to you, stay tuned!

ARE YOU FAMILIAR WITH THE POETRY OF ROBERT FROST?

Frost was required reading for me in English class. Always loved his poetry. I'd like to see his house someday too!

I love visiting such houses, they bear spirit of the past... they smell different, almost mystic!
The place Frost lived in is indeed so beautiful and peaceful! and green too. Thanks for sharing Susan!

Years ago we were with friends in Vermont heading to Ben and Jerry's Ice cream plant. I recall passing a sign advertising Robert Frost's home. Maybe some day I will get back and visit it...and you!

Hello from Spain: beautiful pictures of the stone house. I do not know the poetry of Robert Frost. I see that he lived in a nice and quiet house. Keep in touch

Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening is a favorite poem of mine (and my husband). I have a beautifully illustrated copy of the poem that we always read during the winter; preferably with snow softly falling at dusk and with a fire blazing in the hearth!

We have visited his stone house in Shaftsbury, Vt and were also surprised to learn that he wrote that poem on a very warm day in June. The grounds were very green and peaceful; the perfect place for a writer of poetry. Sounds like you have a very pleasant trip.

I have heard of him and his work - but it has been awhile - so I would have to reacquaint myself again.

Hi Susan, this is yet another place I drove right by when I was in your area in May. The people I was with didn't take us to anything. I am still very disappointed. I have started a list of things to see next time I go east...I won't be joining those "friends" again.
