Penguins at the New England Aquarium in Boston

Did you know that penguins have good hearing both under and above water?

Were you aware their ears are hidden underneath their feathers?

These facts are revealed at the New England Aquarium's current exhibit, "Penguinology: Explore the Secret World of Penguins."

The entire exhibit is very educational and quite fascinating to observe.

It's so amazing to see the unique creatures on rocks in the exhibit or swimming at high speed under the surrounding water.

Penguins at the aquarium have hardy appetites and daily gobble down 40 pounds of anchovies, capelin, herring, sardines and smelt, according to the aquarium's website.

It's also noted that they "poop a lot."

The website notes that " Aquarium staff and volunteers spend hours every day scrubbing poop, feathers and other detritus off the rock islands in the exhibit."

Now that would be quite a volunteering experience.

I've been interested in penguins ever since seeing the documentary "March of the Penguins."

HAVE YOU EVER SEEN PENGUINS IN PERSON? WHAT DO YOU LIKE ABOUT THEM?

Hi Susan, I've never seen penguins in person. These would be great fun to watch. I would not like to clean up after them, however!

Oh, Susan, I love this post! We visited this aquarium way back in 2002. It was a spontaneous decision just before the kids went back to school. It was John and I, our youngest daughter and oldest grandson. We all thought it was one of our best vacations! Loved Boston! Your post makes me want to return :)

Have seen the penguin exhibit in Boston many years ago. It was great fun to watch their antics. We were in Boston a couple of weekends ago and talked about going to the aquarium some time soon. Would love to take our little grandaughter there.

March of the Penguins and Happy Feet were both great entertainment. They sure do have resilience and determination, don't they? Quite unusual creatures.
