Older Is Sometimes Better

"Make new friends but keep the old.
One is silver but the other gold."

I always liked those lines and the same can be said for some favorite items around the house, don't you think?

For instance, a long, long time ago, while living outside the country,  I bought a little wooden grotto with doors that open up.

Inside, I placed a tiny statue of the Virgin of Guadalupe, patroness of Mexico.

The case has traveled everywhere I've lived in that past several decades so it's pretty well traveled.

There's no way I want to retire this little wooden grotto. It's just something I have always loved and hope to hang on to it indefinitely.

DO YOU HAVE SOME OLD ITEMS AROUND YOUR PLACE YOU DON'T WANT TO PART WITH?

This is a sweet item and I would like it! I have lots of old things...in a drawer I have a two piece rosary box, a ceramic nun in black and white. A freind gave it to me when we were children.

That grotto is a treasure. I have Dutch boy and girl plaques that belonged to my grandma. They are my treasures.

My grandmother was very good at sewing and made me a picture of two friends with that quote. Which is so true. I treasure things that my children and family have made for me and would never part with any of them.

I have things made by my grandmother that I still display...I also have crocheted pillow cases that were made by my husband's grandmother still in my linen closet and an embroidered scene too. These are keepsakes and I will pass them down to my own children when I'm gone!

Hello from Spain: Fabulous image of the Virgin of Guadalupe. I keep small images of the Virgin and San Antonio. I I keep them for years. Some were my grandmother. Keep in touch

That is quite a lovely grotto you have. It must have many special memories attached to it.

I have a baby book that my mom kept for me. It has a hand sewn (by her) cover with little pearls on it. Inside are wonderful pictures that I never tire of seeing. I will pass that on to my kids and they will have a nice remembrance of their mother.

Susan - that is BEAUTIFUL! I can see why you would never part with it! You know my affinity for vintage Catholic! The chippy Mary garden statue that I've written about so many times on my blog. I couldn't part with that.
Well, you were certainly right about getting whomped with snow! We're buried! How about you? So grateful that we did not lose power/heat though!
Stay warm!

My sister loves the Virgin of Guadalupe, patroness of Mexico - so I know all about her.

Now I do have some items that probably have no monetary value, but I wouldn't give them up for the world!

... Your little grotto is beautiful, Susan.....
I don't have anything that I wouldn't part with.... all my 'special' things were given to my children and grand children a few years ago.....
Getting rid of my collections and special things was the hardest and most liberating thing I've ever done.....and I'm loving the spaciousness I've created......
