The Start of Summer

Today is Memorial Day in the United States.

It is a happy day in that it signals the start of summer.

It's a holiday from work. Families get together, sizzle hamburgers and hotdogs on the grill, and just have fun.

It is sad in that it honors service men and women who have died to keep this country free.

When I think of the parents of those who have died, it breaks my heart.

Imagine having a child, nurturing him or her for so many years, and then seeing your beloved son or daughter go off to war, never to return.

Remembrances of their childhood accomplishments, trophies, photos of their proms and high school graduation must all be painful reminders they are no longer on this earth.

Imagine what it must feel like to know you will never hug your precious son or daughter again.

That is heartbreaking but it's also reality for parents whose adult children have died for this country.

Today, we honor those brave souls and thank them in our hearts for giving the ultimate sacrifice---their lives.

HOW DO YOU CELEBRATE MEMORIAL DAY?

Going to a bbq block party at my son's house. Will have the same menu you posted in this blog. I always watch the wonderful concert for Memorial Day from the Capital in DC. It stirs my heart and brings tears to my eyes. Thank you to all the people who have died so we all can live free.

I am grateful beyond measure for all those who have fought for our freedoms, and I feel especially grateful for those who have given their lives. May we never forget that freedom isn't free!

Blessings to you,
