Hummers Hiding?

For a couple of years now, hummingbirds have not made an appearance in our yard.

There is a special feeder filled with homemade liquid food just for them.

It consists of two cups of water and a half cup of sugar. After boiling, it is allowed to cool and then poured into the feeder.

It hangs on the back porch.

Each week it's taken down, washed, and refilled.

Nearby is a red rose bush and a little farther, in the middle of the yard, a brilliantly red begonia plant since I heard hummingbirds are attracted to the color red.

So far, no hummers.

Where oh where can the hummingbirds be?

ANY IDEAS ON HOW TO ATTRACT HUMMERS?

They are all in my yard in So. Cal. I don't even feed them but they are there day after day feeding on whatever they can find in nature.

such a shame you have no hummingbirds. when they are ready they'll show themselves. be patient.

I think the hummer figure on the feeder ( if the photo is yours) seems like its caught. It may seem silly but some birds may be scared by that. Try removing it and see what happens.

We keep refilling ours too, but we have had no little visitors so far.

I have seen those cheap red feeders get a ton of them - maybe this is too fancy for them.
