Fireplaces are wonderful.
Fireplaces are messy.
Yep, they are, indeed, both.
However, I'd rather deal with the messiness than live without a fireplace.
There's just something so comforting about having a fire crackling in the fireplace on a cold, snowy day or evening in New England.
If a home or apartment had a fireplace operated by the flick of a switch, I could live with it.
But give me the scent and crackling of real dried wood any day.

I have to tell you that we had a wood burning fire place - but we switched it to gas logs and I do love that.
I will put a log in my fireplace this weekend as it is going to pour rain. I love to light a fire in the rain.
Hello! Yes I do! But we have a gas fireplace stove now. The other was a lot of work and hubby wanted to have heat and ambience at the flick of a switch. We use it all the time and I love it. :) Kit
Yes, I love wood-burning fireplaces, although we don't use ours that often, cause here in California, it doesn't get terribly cold in the Winters. Jess has a tall wood burning fireplace - the old ones that reach to the ceiling, and I love it. Your fireplace looks so cozy, Susan, and it must keep you warm on the cold snowy days.

I can sit and watch a crackling fore until it smolders. I find it so relaxing.
Hope you are staying warm. We are going from Minus 5 to plus 60 this weekend. Crazy weather.
