Feisty Foxglove

A local supermarket had plants for sale out in front.

A rather startling plant with pink flowers looked stately and unique.

It was on sale for $14.95.

Because of a love for the color pink, as well as for the look of the plant, it came home with me.

My SIL told me, via cell phone text, (after I sent him a photo of it), that it was probably floxglove.

When looking up foxglove, the descriptions were anything but appealing.

Apparently, it is very toxic and can be fatal if ingested in even little quantities?

Oh NO!  Is this true?

It is apparently used in digitalis, a drug used to treat heart problems?

DOES ANY GARDNER OUT THERE KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT FOXGLOVE THAT YOU CAN SHARE? IS IT SAFE TO GROW IF THERE ARE KIDS IN THE YARD?

Very pretty but if it is toxic I'd throw it away quickly.

Foxglove is not the only toxic plant on the market. So many plants are toxic because that's how they protect themselves in the wild. Here we have oleander that is able to flourish but it is also toxic. The flowers are so beautiful and smell so good but you will never find bees even close to them. Nature knows how to take care of itself. I don't know many kids who go out and chew on plants for fun and would imagine it would take a lot of munching to feel any effects. If you are concerned, I'd just put it in a spot where no one can really get to it.
